The Makings of a Volkswagen Get-Together by Scuba2001
September 09, 2004
As the summer months approach us, many of us are, and will be attending local get togethers (gtg) and shows. For the new members that haven’t attended a gtg yet, one might ask, what really makes a gtg a gtg?

For someone planning his first get together, it takes time to plan everything. Having everyone bring his items is something that always takes time. Most people aren't always willing to bring something. Others will go out of their way to make sure that everything is covered. It's great to have a nice large grill to make sure that you have enough space to cook everything all at once. But, when preparing the lettuce, tomatoes, etc., never put the lettuce down the disposal. I learned the hard way as right before everyone started showing up, I had a clogged kitchen sink. I've never once done any plumbing work, but within 10 minutes it was all fixed and flowing freely.

Next, you will need enough space to keep all of your food in one area until its time to cook things up. A nice freezer helps, preferable one that can handle all of 24 burgers, 24 hot dogs, 10 brats, and the rest of the food.

Now, all you need is people to come. This can sometimes be one of the harder things to do. On a holiday weekend, some people have plans to spend their time with their families. Others will opt to hang out with the local guys and gals for a great time for barbecue and to talk about cars.

After every one has eaten, it's then time to go for a cruise to check out the local Honda/Acura owners. Going for a cruise around town is always a great way to end the evening. Being able to see the reactions of people's faces is really priceless. It's not everyday that you see a bunch of Volkswagens trailing each other's bumpers.

So, next time you plan a get together, keep these things in mind. Great weather is always a plus, and having a place to sit inside and cool down is even better.

Until next time, drive safe.
