The Single DIN
Purse by atomicalex
September 09, 2004 |
If
there's one thing that defines German cars, it's the
singular lack of cup holders. But another, slightly
more annoying-to-me problem is the lack of places to
stash a purse. My atlas goes next to the seat in the
slim spot there, and the map pockets are loaded with
maps. The glove box holds the manual and a few band aids,
and the wayback is, well, too way back there. The only
possible storage spaces in the B5 Classics are in the
armrest (kind of funny shaped) and that useless single
DIN slot under it.
So my purse would float. If I drive alone, it goes on
the passenger seat or in the passenger footwell. If
the family is loaded up, it goes behind the driver's
seat. Not very convenient, but it works. I don't even
have one of those huge purses that double as laundry
baskets. It's a smallish Coach model, holds my cell,
my Palm, and my wallet. In my Mom's Caravan, I could
lose it in the ample storage cubbies that abound.
But I don't drive her Caravan. Thank God.
Unfortunately, I still need to deal with the purse
problem.
The answer was visited on me during a recent trip to
Toronto. I was shopping at the Roots store in Eaton
Centre. If you've never been to a Roots Athletics
store, you are missing out on some nice stuff. Super
comfy clothing and nifty accessories for girls and
guys. I was noodling around and I saw it - the single
DIN purse. The bottom of this black beauty was exactly
one DIN space. I saw my new purse stashed properly in
my Passat clearly.
When I got home (it was a Golf trip), I ran to the
Passat. The new purse fit perfectly! My purse problems
were finally solved and I defeated the German
engineers and their lack of storage. Never again will
Steven toss my purse aside when he gets in the car.
OK, so it was a small victory. But it was a good one
for the girls. We need some space, doggone it!
