5th Annual Southern California Club B5 GTG/Drive
August 17, 2003
San Juan Capistrano, CA - Cooks Park

Its hard to believe that it has already been 4 years since the club's First Annual Southern California. More than just a fun day in the sun, this event marks the anniversary of the inception of the web site. We've come a long way since then, and the prizes that were offered in this year's raffle should back that statement up. Among the prizes were a GIAC and a Wetterauer chip and a Neuspeed rear sway bar!

We started off the day with the usual sign up and registration like we do every year, but this year at registration, not only were people signing in and buying raffle tickets, their cars were being assigned a number and they were given a ballot to vote for their favorite car in the all new people's choice car show that we added to the itinerary! For most of the morning, everyone was hanging out and checking out everyone's cars and voting for who they thought had the dirtiest B5, etc.

At around 11:30am is when we rallied everyone up to get ready for our annual drive down Ortega Highway. I was not able to participate in the drive since I had to stay back and tally up the votes, but my brother was more than happy to take my car on the drive for me. The original plan was to drive the 22 miles down to Lake Elsinore and back. We were thinking that we should skip our little "pit-stop" that we do on the way up to the lake every year because last year we pissed too many people off by holding up traffic. We noticed though that we had about 15-20 cars fewer than last year, so Adam (passatlover99), who leads the drive every year, insisted that we try it. Success! With only 49 B5's on this years drive, the "pit-stop" was no problem at all.

When everyone returned at around 1:30pm, they found a food-stand grilling up hot dogs and hamburgers, compliments of Capistrano Volkswagen. After a little lunch in the shade, we concluded the day's events with the awards ceremony and raffle. After all of the awards and prizes were handed out, I presented Miles and Greg of Capistrano VW with a special trophy as a token of our appreciation for everything they did to make this year's GTG a successful one.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, and a special thank you to the following sponsors:
