The
New "Facelifted" 2001.5 Passat
August 21, 2000
|
|
| The following are
pictures of William Houston, of Avon, Ohio,
driving his new Passat during a PCA Drivers ED., back in June. This was his first driver
ed. and he can't say enough great things about the experience. Even though he's a newbie
at driving a car near its limit, he can say the Passat is a "rush" to
drive. The car handled the 2 mile,13 turn track with unbelievable ease. The cornering was
better than most of the cars in the beginners class and the average time was only a few
seconds behind my friend's 911sc (~240 hp)(1m 33s vs 1m 28s). His car still has stock
springs and shocks but, never felt the car was too soft to corner hard. He could get the
car to 110 mph before the "Kink" (a sharp 20deg change of direction in the
straight) and at that speed the car's dynamics could really be felt. The brakes were
equally impressive, they pulled the car down without any hesitation or fade. The P-chip
had a guy in the stock A4 1.8t wondering what was wrong with his expensive Audi. After
looking over the Passat, he admitted he was jealous. |
