B5 of the Month – January 2005
Nenad Lutovac (Nenad )
Moscow, Russia

First of all I would like to thank Administrator and Moderators for great privilege of choosing my car for B5OTM. While writing this, I still do not quite believe it happened. Being member of CB5 for roughly 1.5 years and with car that is not match for most of other members cars (not to mention that my contribution to life of CB5 is not significant like from other fellow members), I never really thought that this can happen. Anyway, here I am in front of all of you with my humble achievement.

I would like to make confession. Up to 8 years ago, I never thought that I would drive a Passat. This VW was never on my wish list. By a case I got B5 (3B) 1.8 Variant and was really delighted by handling and agility of his 1.8L,90 HP engine. Big role played fact that car was pretty tough and was practically unbreakable, even spare parts were much cheaper from competitor's cars.

Car really grew on me and I decided to buy new bigger Passat. Since Moscow traffic is notoriously congested and jammed, first option was Tiptronic (before never had AT car), second option was 4Mo (never had it before either) since in this part of the World snow is, shall we say, common. Third option was Variant/Wagon, I have 2 big dogs that need more space than myself. Last was engine, only 3 options at the time 1.8T, 2.0L and 2.8L; so I took V6.

Didn't have intention to start modding car at all, after a year of ownership just bought set of 17" rims and new tires and put chip (felt that car is lacking urge of previous car, although it was obviously faster in sprint. Then two things happened almost simultaneously, while surfing on I-net I spotted CB5. At the first moment, I did not pay attention just saved link on my computer. Than 2nd thing happened, I was on business trip and had connecting flight via Vienna (Austria), flight was delayed and I was bored till death. Entered Newspaper shop and started to look at the different car magazines, almost all of them were German, Austrian or from other EU countries. Just by chance I spotted issue of Eurotuner, took it and my first thought was "..Americans writing about EU cars..funny. What they know, more over in matter of tuning them". Before that, I really thought that US car scene is limited on Muscle cars, big&small blocks, Edelbrock, Japanese "buzzers". What A mistake, I found myself buying this issue and reading it at spot. At the middle of reading, I asked seller does he have any other issue of Eurotuner, luckily he had one older and of course I bought it. When I came back to Moscow I ordered all old issues that I could find on their site and subscribed myself on 2 years. I remembered CB5 and started to lurk. I could not be more surprised with spirit, knowledge, enthusiasm, commitment of CB5 members. Not to mention that I was shocked how Passat can be transformed into something really attractive, beautiful and sporty. On that moment, I decided to start my own quest for perfection. What you see on those pics is car that is "in the works" hope that I will have time and resources (read-money) to finish it, as I want.

I would like to say that in CB5 I found great resource of knowledge and support form its members. I even had luck to meet one of you/us. Moreover, this SC under the hood would be almost impossible to have, without help of some other great people from CB5.  In conclusion, I want to say thanks to all of you for answering on all my questions, helping and supporting me to find my path in tuning and excuse me for my ignorance and prejudice, I had toward you and what you are doing. Without any hesitation, I can say (knowing situation on both sides of Atlantic) that CB5 is truly guardian of genuine Euro look and spirit behind these cars.
