B5 of the Month – March 2005
Cameron Purser (Stranded In Daytona)
Daytona Beach, FL USA

Well my journey with my passat started in April of 2003.  At the time I had a 1995 Chevrolet S-10 pickup with the Lightning Fast 2.2L.  I knew I would be moving to Daytona Beach, FL from NC the following Fall and I did not trust my truck to get me there.  I began looking for a newer and reliable vehicle.  I'd like to tell you that I knew I wanted a VW from the moment I started shopping, but I really have my mother to thank.  I was looking for a used Honda/Acura just because I knew they were dependable. Thank God my mother was car shopping at the same time because she urged me to come and look at the Volkswagens just in case I might like what I see.  The first car that caught my eye was a silver 1999 V6 Passat.  I had never even heard of a passat at the time, but I knew it was the car for me.  It had alloy wheels, a powerful V6, leather interior (with heated seats), and a sunroof. . . .WOW!  So I took it for a test drive and that was all I needed.  my mother and I purchased both our passats on the same day. (She got an 03 Variant by the way).

My first "mod" was a custom cold air intake.  Me, being a stupid 18 year old with the mod fever for a nice new car I knew nothing about, managed to hit a deep puddle and allow my "cold air straw" to suck water into all 6 cylinders.  I cried...... a lot.  I didn't have my car for a month as I had a rebuilt engine installed.

After I finally got my car back, I knew I needed to find people that shared the same passion and love for their cars as I did.  I found VWVORTEX.com on my own but didn't feel welcomed at all because I didn't know the difference between an MKIII and an MKIV.  So I went to the local VW performance shop in town and they informed me of www.Clubb5.com.  I immediatly registered and immediatly felt welcomed by people telling me to come to upcoming shows and just giving kind words to a NooB.  I kept getting more and more excited about modding my car as I read the new posts when I would get home from work or school.

It is an extreme honor to be B5 of the month.  Out of all the deserving members, I never thought I would be nominated for this.  Through Clubb5, I have learned everything about my car that I know today.  I would like to thank all of the people who have ever offered me advice and support.  I would also like to thank the Moderators for keeping this website the way it was when I joined.  This site is much more than a "car club"; it's a community of friends and family with a common pursuit of knowledge in a common passion.  So once again, thank you for this honor.
