When I got
a ride in my buddy’s modified ’99 wagon, I knew I just had
to have a Passat of my own.
Although I wasn’t prepared to purchase a new car at
the time, it was only a short while later that I traded my car
in for a brand new Passat. This was the beginning of a truly
beautiful relationship.
Just a few
short months after purchase, the modding began.
Since I was only a novice in this area, I planned on
making just a few changes to the car.
First, I debadged the entire car.
Then I color matched the lower panels by painting them
Satin Silver along with the front grill and the orange
reflectors on the turn signals.
18” racing rims were next and I complemented them by
lowering the car with H&R Sport springs.
By this
time, the car was starting to look amazing!
My friends and I always get a kick out of watching
people try to figure out what type of car it was.
After a 3,000 mile wait, I had her chipped.
This was followed immediately with a SuperSprint
exhaust, HKS intake, and a Forge diverter valve for good
measure. Later in
the year, I added a Zender rear deck and front spoiler, a
Kamei grill, and a set of HID’s.
Phew!
By now she was a real beauty - talk about
aesthectically pleasing!
So I was done - or so I thought.
By chance, a friend of mine persuaded me to enter a car
show that he was entering.
Well, what do you know?
I won second place in my class.
After getting a taste of the show scene, I had a
full-blown case of ‘Mod Fever’.
All I could think of was what I was going to do next.
At that
point, I replaced my suspension setup with H&R coilovers
so the car would sit a little lower and I filled the wheel
well by replacing my wheels with 19" Axis Speed Six's.
And to complement the 19’s, I added Porsche 993
brakes. For a
little special effect, I ordered the Audi TT gas flap, M3
sport mirrors, and Caractere rear valence and roof diffuser.
At that
point, my car looked simply incredible but something was
missing. I had
focused so much on the body that I had failed to pay any
attention to the interior.
So, I did what any mod obsessed owner would do.
I ordered custom two-tone leather interior.
Then I added a real Billet aluminum dash kit with after
market pedals and diamond plate floor mats.
And last
but not least, I needed a better audio system.
I didn’t want anything too crazy so I opted for an
Alpine head unit with 6.5" monitor, Alpine 6 CD/DVD
changer, and a 10" JL subwoofer with a dedicated Alpine
amp. I also
replaced the stock speakers with MB quartz components.
Well, there
you have it - the evolution of my B5.
I can tell you that I am very happy with my car and am
pretty much done with the modifications.
But then again, you never know when the mod bug will
bite! (Shoo! Shoo! Get away! Get away!)
Being
selected as ClubB5’s “B5 of the Month” is a huge honor.
This is the best site with a cool bunch of members,
moderators, and of course, the President.
I would just like to say thanks to everyone for sharing
your knowledge and opinions to help out all of our fellow CB5
members. And most
importantly, I would like to thank ClubB5 for allowing me to
make so many great new friends.
Thanks again everyone.
