B5 of the Month – May 2004
Becca Mirkovich (glxpassat)
Springfield, OR USA

I would have to say that my passion for VW’s started at a very early age, around 8 or so.  I saw the VW Rabbit and for some strange reason I was in-love with this car.  My dad thought it was a little strange at my age, and considering the fact that I was a little girl, that I would be so mesmerized by the whole “VW Rabbit”.  I always told my dad that I would own one.  But I had a fateful accident one day in a VW Rabbit when I was in high-school and my dad being in the fire service was the one that was called to the scene of the accident.  So, after that, the “VW Rabbit” was not something that was mentioned any more, as it really hit my dad and how bad I had been hurt.  So, the whole VW thing was dismissed for a couple of years, but my love for the VW’s never went away.  Finally, I had my eye on the Corrado, but could not afford one at that time, so my next choice was the Jetta.  Never thought I would get rid of my beloved Jetta but after 6.5 years of ownership, I laid eyes on the new “Passat”!!!  I had to have one!  They were simply beautiful.  Searched around for the Silver/Black 1.8 all weather package, but since they were new on the market…impossible to find one.  I decided to settle for my second choice of the black on black, but I was not too keen on the Automatic.  After waiting 5 months I finally gave in and bought it.  This was the beginning of a new love!

Seeing this beautiful car, I wanted to learn as much about it for modifying as possible.  This is when the internet was the most wonderful tool to come about in the technical world.  I surfed all over so I could learn about this new love and came across this site: Passat Owners of the World (POW) and was then referred to VWVortex.com, which was great, but a little aggressive.  Then in September 1999 I learned of a brand new site called ClubB5.com and from there the money went out the door.

Sadly, after owning the car for 4 weeks I was involved in a car accident by a driver that ran a red light.  My poor baby was so messed up and so new to me.  Previously, I had thought about doing the suspension first, but because of the accident two rims had to be replaced.  I ended up just buying new 17’s for my car verses putting the 15” Adelaides back on my car.  Now my car looked like she was running the whole 4 X 4 look until I finally got my suspension picked out.  From there things slowly transformed on the mods, but not as fast as I wish they could.  At this time, I still have a huge list of items I want to do, but I have the car on the back burner for now.  Even though I have this grand list of items I want and need to do for my car I am happy with the stopping point my car is at now. Thanks to everyone at Club B5!
