Looking
back over the last year, I can't believe how much I have
learned about VW's. I
took a Jetta out for a test drive and was ready to take it
home until I realized that no one could sit behind me when I
was driving. While
I was standing there thinking about it, I turned around and
there it was – a beautiful soon-to-be-mine Satin Silver
Passat. That was
all I needed to see the idea of getting a Jetta was history.
The modding
began even before I took the car home.
I had the dealer throw in the splash guards and the New
Jetta crystal clear side markers.
The first few months I had the car I was still learning
a lot about VW's and what could be done to them.
I met a great group of guys that have helped me learn a
ton about the Passat and we have all become great friends.
It was with this group that I co-founded “Team EEP”
(Euro-Elite Performance) last year.
Forming this team has allowed all of us to learn more
and more about our cars and to share that knowledge with
others. A lot of
the ideas for my car came directly from Team EEP and I’m
proud to see positive growth within our team.
As the
months rolled by, I continued to mod the car with HID's, Votex
fogs and a lot of the standard ‘little mods’ that many of
our members do. But
then everything seemed to change in the spring of 2001 when I
tinted the tails on my car.
Back then, I never would have guessed that I would be
so widely known for this.
But because of the incredible support everyone has
given me, it motivated me to continue doing a lot of custom
work. Last
summer, I started to paint my engine bay but did it in small
stages since it was such a big job.
And now it’s almost done.
As I became
more and more comfortable doing this custom work, I started to
concentrate on the exterior of the car.
I wanted to develop a theme and with Team EEP's support
and encouragement, I decided on a two color scheme for the
exterior – Satin Silver and Fjord Blue. I painted my lower valences, added a Zender front spoiler,
painted my grill, and just completed a custom two-tone paint
job on my mirrors.
Now with
the exterior starting to take shape, I needed wheels and
improved suspension. Since
I planned on getting this car into shows, I wanted a set of
19's dedicated for show duty.
I decided on 19"x8.5" Sportec Mono/10 High
Gloss wheels with Continental Sport Contact 2's from our
friends and Wheel & Tire Forum sponsors, Edge Racing. I also have a set of 17's that I use for daily use.
After driving around on stock suspension and 17's, I
finally got KW coils and got the car down to the level I
wanted.
After
thinking that my car was pretty much done about six months
ago, I suddenly went crazy with it and started on the
interior. The
result was a custom four-tone (Black, Red, Silver, Blue)
leather interior with the seat pattern resembling that of the
BMW M3. My goal
was to do something no one has done before.
I can honestly say that I have successfully
accomplished that goal! |

After
that, I got to work on the mobiletronics.
I completely removed the stock Monsoon system and went
with a full audio/video setup with the goal of having a top
end SQ (sound quality) system.
Again, there was plenty of custom work done on this
system ranging from custom enclosures to Bose speakers mounted
in the dash vents. These
speakers are dedicated as center channel speakers for watching
DVD movies and for the DVD based Navigation system. |

Since
completing my exhausting list of mods, I put my car in one show
so far and I am proud to say that it won first place in the
Passat Modified class. It's great to see people recognize all the hard work that has
been put into my car and I enjoy talking to people and answering
all their questions. The
most common question I receive is, “So, what's next?”
I tell them, "You will know very soon!"
And I simply leave it at that.
My car continues to be a work in progress and I have
several projects that I am working on right now.
I look forward to sharing them with you in the very near
future.
I
would like to thank everyone at ClubB5 and Team EEP for all your
continued support. I
am honored to be ClubB5’s B5 of the Month for June 2002.
Thanks again.
