Jesse's Personal Statement:
Well, my first encounter with a B5 was on a VW lot nonetheless.

I had bought a Chevy S10 X-Cab pickup in late '97. After having it for about 2 yrs, I was growing tired of it, and wanted something new. I had been thinking of getting a car (only had trucks in the past) because my fiancée had a small car, and if her, myself, and our son wanted to go somewhere together, we were cramped in either my truck or her car. So, it was the idea of getting a car we could all fit in nicely that started everything.

Started looking around on the roads, and noticed that I liked the sportiness and size of the Jetta. When I get to my local dealership, I hop in the back seat and just knew it was not going to suffice. I then turn around looking at other cars, and there it is... bigger, sleeker, luxurious, beautiful. I look at the trunk and see Passat. I immediately start looking in the windows, going around the car, etc. I think I fell in love with it right there.

So after about 2 months of heavy internet research, and debating if I really wanted to ditch my truck (I loved it too!), I took the plunge. Drove off on Valentine's Day evening in a brand new '00 Satin Silver GLS 1.8T (honey, Happy V-Day... I bought myself a new car! Hehe).

Due to all the mods I had seen done by people online, it wasnt long before I started doing some of the more minor things in my long list of what I had planned. First off, clear corners. Kamei Grill was next. Alien Remote window controller was put in. I then was being tempted about chipping the car. I finally decided to get in on a group buy for the APR chip, which saved me a $100! After the chip install, it was a whole different car, and the suspension became more evident that it needed to be tweaked. So I couldn't decide between Eibach's and H&R's. I happened to find an awesome local deal on the Eibach's, installed and aligned, so I went that route. Now I had the car pretty much tuned the way I wanted.

I then got the itch to put some different wheels on, as I knew that would dramatically change the looks of the whole car. It took me a while to settle on the TSW Revo's, as I wanted something simple and plain, but different from stock. Got scared off from going with an 18" rim, so 17" silver finish TSW Revo's with 225/45/17 Pirelli P7000 Super Sport tires was put on. Nice, but it wasn't long until I started thinking that I shoulda got 18". Oh well, still looks great, and most people almost always think there are 18" when they see them. Shortly before DriversFest, I had all the rest of the exterior mods I had been wanting taken care of, including painting the brake calipers black, color matching the lower black valences and getting the Projectzwo front spoiler on there (BIG thanks Eric!). Then an HKS intake system went in to replace the stock system. This was mainly done because I could not get past not hearing the blow off valve sound after hearing it in person on another B5. Shortly after, I wanted my car to sit just a little bit lower, so I switched to the H&R springs which provided another 1/2" in drop. I then got Astra H7 (lowbeam) ultrawhite bulbs, and had my taillights darkened via a paint process (thanks to Wet Works Garage). Just recently, I replaced the white OEM side markers with a set of the brand new '01crystal clear OEM side markers, which I have also installed an ultrawhite bulb in. I also have installed a set of Mintex Red Box brake pads, which keep my wheels squeaky clean.
