B5 of the Month – September 2002
G - Guido Wils

Belgium

I bought my Passat for three reasons.  First and foremost, it’s a Volkswagen!  Secondly, I immediately fell in love with the beautiful lines of the B5.  And thirdly, I loved the large interior and cargo space.  Knowing how much I intended to modify the Passat, I decided to buy a second hand B5 and bought a ‘98 in 2001.  I don’t regret this decision one bit.

The first thing I changed was the steering wheel as it had to be a lot smaller than the OEM wheel.  After that, the modifications continued at a rapid pace.  Zimmerman cross-drilled rotors front and back, leather seats, dials changed to white, In-Pro white taillights, Hella headlights and side markers, Caractere front and rear spoilers, and a custom dual exhaust made by… me! Then the hard work commenced.  I removed the luggage racks, the rear door handles, the roof antenna, and all the plastic stripes on the bumpers and doors.  After all that removing, I added the ‘boeser blick’ hood extension!

I am most proud of my wheels made by a German company called Strosek that is primarily a Porsche and Lamborghini tuner.  The front wheels are 19” x 9.5 and the back wheels are 19”x10.5.  The wheels are wrapped with Dunlop SP9000’s – 235/35/19. And my sound system is comprised of a Sony CDX M700R head unit; I replaced the stock speakers with Soundstream speakers, added two EARTHQUAKE subs in the back, and powered it all with a KENWOOD PS400 amplifier and a SOUNDSTREAM rubicon 4 amplifier.

There is still a lot to do but with the help of ClubB5, I’ll get there!
