B5
of the Month – November 2003

I bought my
Passat in June of 2001, after having owned a Jetta for a few
years I had no doubt about wanting to move up the line in the
Volkswagen family for my next car.
I owned my B5 for about 8 months before I found Club B5,
and I loved the car just the way it was in stock form. If I only
knew what was ahead of me!
The day I
stumbled upon Club B5, I was awed by the current B5 of the
month. At that time it was Wunder Wagen (David Graas). I had never
seen a modified Passat before, especially a variant, but after
seeing his car I was inspired and immediately planned a list of
mods for my car. The
first of which was to rid the car of that huge suv-like wheel
gap. I started
acquiring more and more different mods and soon thereafter I
decided upon a style I wanted to go with, which is simple and
sleek. The black car allows for a stealthy look with the dark
tint (20%).

I’ve kept
the interior of the car relatively simple. I have aluminum trim,
door sills and shift knob, plus an upgraded stereo system which
includes amps, a stealth box, Pioneer head unit and JL
components plus XM satellite radio and a 12 disc changer.
The more important parts of the car to me are the
suspension, exterior, and engine. I have KW Variant 2 coilovers
paired with neuspeed front and rear sway bars, which provide
better handling, plus 18” Axis speed six wheels wrapped in P
Zero Nero M&S tires and Stoptech brakes with slotted rotors
and black calipers for serious stopping power. The tinted tails,
side markers and bumper reflectors are done by Jonboy.
Euro spec bi-xenon’s with Stage 2 bulbs provide extra
lighting up front, and are good for lighting up the woodsy area
I live in. Under
the hood I have the GIAC chip, EVO intake, HKS blow off valve,
and Brullen Exhaust. Beyond
that, there are a few other minor modifications, but again
nothing crazy. It
was all done within a span of a few months when I was motivated
and eager to modify the car, but after a lot of long weekends, I
have reached a level that I am happy with.

I haven’t
gone crazy with modding the car, although I have been tempted by
many group buys and other inspiring B5’s around Club B5. There
is always something new that pop’s up on the forums that is
hard to compete with, but I’ve tried to keep it simple and
when all was said and done I basically went with performance
modifications, and simple styling. After I was content with
everything I had done, I did decide to show it once – that was
the first and last time, because second place is good enough for
me. I never
imagined that I would be able to put together a car that is
worthy of any awards or being chosen for B5 of the Month.
There
have been so many great cars and people that I’ve met through
the forums. I’d like to thank Team EEP, especially Jonboy
(Jon) who’s helped with my suspension, tails and many other
things also BoeserBlick (Joe), Meph (Jack), nycpassat (Willie),
Barrelman17 (PJ), AJChenMPH (Andy), Jwil (Jeff), letsaudi (Sid)
and Ture7 (Al) and the support and help they’ve given me over
the past year or so. Also the other women here on the boards who
have provided great information and feedback as well, especially
to Atomicalex (Kathy) and GLXPassat (Becca) since they’ve been
here a lot longer than I have, and deserve just as much
recognition. Finally, I would like to thank everyone at Club B5 for all
their help and support.
